Unlike games like 'Call of Duty', a couple of hits are sufficient to bring you down in Brothers in Arms'. The basic shooter mechanics are solid but you'll probably need to adjust your mindset a bit since you're not the God-like you are in most other games. Without spoiling the game, too much you take control of Sergeant Matt Baker (Voiced by Troy Baker) as they make their way toward the Battle of Bloody Gulch as you take part in some fun tank battles and some sniper missions. Set, during the 1944 events of D-Day, the game tells the story of a group of 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment men of the famed 101st Airborne Division, who were dropped behind German lines on Normandy Coast, during WWII. The game strives on the single player campaign, and is probably the most authentic World War 2 game I've ever played. But after the game has been played and you can really get into the story line, you will be very happy. The worst thing about the multi player though, has to be the use of only 4 players. With no death match (boo), but mission based team play. The multi player XBOX Live, and system link play is nothing special. Commanding a tank becomes tedious, because they tend to be more of a nuisance, then a help. Commanding your two squads becomes a little annoying, because if you don't pay attention to them, they will get killed. Sadly though, the game play is also the one place where the game sags. And trust me, they will definitely be able to find it. They will shoot at the most important target to them, and take cover wherever they can find it. This is used so often, because the AI in the game is so intelligent. So when this is done, you must come from the side, under cover, and take out the enemy from their side. Creating cover fire with your teams commands is used an incredible amount. You must always keep them in cover, and try as much as possible to keep them alive, because they are important. Now I will get onto where the game really soars. You might think at some points, that you are watching a movie, because that is how the story is displayed. Yes, I am referring to my gaming as a career now. The whole story gives me something that I have never seen in my entire gaming career. Because it is probably the most graphic opening sequence that I've ever seen in a game. The opening sequence of the game will really show you that you are in for something. It brings great graphics, amazing story, realistic characters, and incredibly fun game play to the table. But Brothers in Arms is something special. So that is pretty much the entire Call of Duty series, and some other random WW2/Vietnam games. When I say "the best war game", I'm talking about the ones that are based on actual wars. I don't consider Ghost Recon 2 as a war game, because it is based in the future. When I say "the best war game", I mean it is the most realistic war game of our time. Being the best war game that I've ever played is pretty good, because I have played A LOT of war games. Here it is: BEST WAR GAME EVER! Okay, maybe that's 4 words, but you get my point. So my topic sentence for this review will be 3 words. It's something that gets straight to the point and keeps the audience interested. I usually start off every review with something that sums up the review in one quick sentence.

Carmageddon 2 h8/2/2023 Failure: Unable to allocate Main Front Screen." The errors in the terminal & the little error window that comes up to tell me "BRender error detected. I blame this on the driver stack I'm using. I tried a range of window sizes in Wine, but still nothing. After the launcher window it tries to load the next screen for a 3-4 seconds & then closes itself. So I removed dvVoodoo & installed the GlideWrapper, told it I was using Carma2, & gave it a whirl. I tried different Wine window sizes but it was no help. I could get the first screen & then the 2nd, where my mouse movement was severely limited (I'm using a 24" mon' with 1920x1600 pixels) I could choose the Viper (from memory) & then I got the next screen where the mouse limitations stopped me. I got hold of a copy of Carma2 & I just installed it, added the NoCD patch & then played around firstly with the dgVoodoo package. I'm using Wine 1.1.0 and i have Ati driver version 8.6 installed.įirstly, I have to own up to using the FOSS Radeon driver stack for my HD2600Pro GPU so I have any additional problems that, that lot may bring. Now for you people who still have this game i'd recommend reinstalling it and getting some of the many many addon cars and tracks made for it on these sites: This might also help other guys who have troubles runing old games that have glide rendering option as zecken wrapper seems to be 100% compatible with wine. Actualy even smoother than it did on W******! And it runs in high resolution mode too.(you have to set it trough glide config) Then i thought oh why not just try zeckensack's glide wrapper.Īfter installing the wrapper on Wine, Carma 2 finds glide mode and runs VERY VERY smoothly. Ofcourse it was a failure at first as this game refuses to detect any kind of rendering mode that wine offers it. So now that I have installed my Hardy I decided to give the game a go. I managed to get a re-release of original cd too! Carmageddon 2 is a great game that I still love to this day.
